2,4-Dihydroxybenzophenone (Ultraviolet Absorber UV-0; Benzophenone-1) (CAS: 131-56-6) is a benzophenone type UV absorber, is particularly recommended for using in polyolefins, PVC, polystyrene, epoxy, nail polish and elastomers. etc. also as the intermediate of UV absorber agents as well. It is compatible with a wide range of polymers. It is also effective to protect colorant , polymethyl methacrylate and coatings. Ultraviolet light absorber, especially in paints and plastics. Mainly used in plastic as a light stabilizer, can effectively protect the organic glass and cloth, to prevent information and other deterioration due to light, also used as an intermediate for the synthesis of other UV absorbers. Novel mordent and disperse azo dyes were prepared by the coupling of various diazo solutions of aromatic amines with 2,4-Dihydroxybenzophenone. The ultraviolet absorbing monomers were synthesized by reaction of 2,4-Dihydroxybenzophenone with glycidyl acrylate and glycidyl methacrylate.

Benzophenone-1 is a powder polymer additive applicable to polyolefine, poyvinyl chlornamee, polystyrene etc as a stabilizer with the incorporation of 0.1% to0.5% (based on polymer weight) required. Effective sunscreen with absorption ranging from 270 to 350 nm.
