4'-Hydroxy-3'-Methoxyacetophenone (Acetovanillone) (Apocynin) (CAS: 498-02-2) is used as pharmaceutical intermediates, flavors and fragrances, food additives, organic synthesis intermediates. Acetovanillone is the synthetic raw material of many psychotropic drugs and various new antimalarial drugs, often used as cardiotonic and diuretic in medicine. Acetovanillone is used as an inhibitor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase, is a selective NADPH-oxidase inhibitor with IC50 of 10 μM, which is an enzyme responsible for reactive oxygen species production. It is also useful in the treatment of various inflammatory diseases and atherosclerosis. Further, it shows an anti-inflammatory activity and improves endothelial function by reducing oxidative stress. In addition to this, it is used for studying nitric oxide regulated processes in plants. Acetovanillone can be used in the fragrance industry. It can be used in perfume industry as well as an important raw material for organic synthesis. It is also a commonly used antioxidant. It is a recognized specific inhibitor of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide oxidase. It is also used as a cardiotonic and diuretic in medicine.
