Vinyl Ethylene Carbonate (VEC) (CAS: 4427-96-7) is used as a highly reactive film-forming additive in lithium secondary batteries; employed in the synthesis of functional polymers. VEC has high dielectric constant, high boiling point and flash point, which is beneficial to improve the safety performance of lithium ion battery. VEC begins to decompose at 1.35V, and can form a stable and dense SEI film on flake graphite, which effectively prevents PC and solvated lithium ion from co-embedding into the graphite layer, and inhibits the decomposition of electrolyte to a minimum, thus improving the charge and discharge efficiency and cycling characteristics of lithium ion battery. The chemical properties are stable. When a certain amount of VEC is added to the electrolyte at a suitable temperature, the cyclic performance of the cathode metal can be significantly improved. After several charge-discharge cycles, the retained discharge capacity can be increased from 68.8% to 84.8%.
