Ethyl Nicotinate is a nicotinic acid derivative used for skin-conditioning cosmetics. It is principally used in medicine as a local vasodilator at a concentration of 1 to 2% in creams, ointments and pomades. Ethyl Nicotinate is utilized for the treatment sprains, wrenches, muscular pains and tendonitis. It is used as an ingredient in skin care products to improve the appearance of aging skin. Ethyl Nicotinate binds to the magnesium ion, which acts as an electron donor, and forms an electrochemical complex. This complex can catalyze the oxidation of hydrochloric acid to form picolinic acid and hydrogen chloride gas, which are thought to be responsible for its exfoliating properties.
