Methyl lactate is used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetobutyrate, cellulose acetopropionate, lacquers, and stains . It is also used as a solvent for various forms of cellulose, as a component in lacquers and stains, and as an intermediate for an herbicide. Ethyl lactate can serve to reduce the alkalinity in cosmetic preparations. It is also used as a solvent for basic dyes, in the manufacture of lacquers and safety glass, as a solvent for various forms of cellulose, as a component of varnishes, and as a food flavoring agent.

Methyl Lactate (CAS: 547-64-8) is used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, cellulase acetate, cellulase acetobutyrote and cellulase acetaprapionate. It is used in the manufacture of lacquers and dopes where it contributes high tolerance for diluents, good flaw and blush resistance.
